Spring 2009 Registration Information

January 2, 2009 is the payment deadline date for early registration.

Registration for the spring 2009 semester begins on November 10, 2008 for currently enrolled students, and November 17, 2008 for new and readmission students who have completed admissions requirements.

A transient student is one who is enrolled at another institution and plans to enroll at Southwest for one semester and then return to the home institution.

Advising

All currently enrolled and readmission students with declared majors should contact the assigned faculty advisor for an advising appointment. For assistance in locating the faculty advisor, please contact the department of your academic major or the office of Advising and Counseling.

Students classified as non-degree seeking and those with undeclared majors may contact the office of Advising and Counseling for assistance with course selection and declaration of a major.

New Students should contact the office of Advising and Counseling to schedule an appointment for a "New Student Advising Session."

Auditing Courses

Students who want to audit courses must register during the late registration period. Students may not use My.Southwest to register to audit a course. An audit may not be converted to credit after the last published date of late registration. Registration for credit may not be converted to audit.

RODP courses are assessed an additional fee and students must complete an RODP Prospective Student Profile. Please refer to Distance Education and Instructional Technology (DEIT) for additional information.

** Hybrid courses take place both online and in the classroom. When reading the section number, the first number represents the campus on which the in-class activities will take place and the H indicates that the course is a Hybrid course. In the case of the example above, the 4 in front of the H indicates that the class will meet at the Southeast Center.

How to Register

New students must schedule an appointment for a "New Student Advising" session with the office of Advising and Counseling.

Continuing students, readmission students, or transient students who know the classes in which they desire to enroll may register via my.southwest.tn.edu. In addition to registering for courses, students may perform the following functions through Student Self-Service:

Help Desk

For assistance with usernames or passwords, please call the Help Desk at (901) 333-4357 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Security

For your protection, Southwest's Student Self-Service site is a fully encrypted Web site. While we have taken these precautions to protect your records, no site is completely secure. We strongly urge you to always logout when you finish using the system by clicking on the Close button on your browser window. Should you sign in and choose not to use Student Self-Service, click the Logout button. Also, remember to close the Web browser.

Follow These Simple Steps to Register Online

Well in advance of registration, meet with an academic advisor to select appropriate courses. While all students are strongly urged to seek academic advising, non-degree seeking students who are returning to Southwest are not required to see an advisor. You must resolve any holds prior to registering. To check your status, click on the Holds link under Student Records in Student Self Service. Please report to the appropriate department for hold resolution.

Note: New students must see an advisor prior to using Student Self-Service for the first time.

To Register Online

  1. Login to my.southwest.tn.edu
  2. Enter your Student username and password
  3. Select Login, locate and select Student Self-Service / Register HERE!, then
  4. Select Registration, then
  5. Select Add or Drop Classes, then
  6. Select the appropriate term
  7. To search for classes, click Class Search, then
  8. Search by subject
    You may filter the search by location, class start time, or class end time
  9. Choose your class, and register by clicking Select, which is adjacent to the desired course, click Register
  10. To view your bill for the term, click the Registration Fee Assessment link

Canceled Classes

Classes which have been canceled will be deleted from your registration and you will be notified via your Southwest student e-mail account and with a letter that will be mailed to your address of record.

Closed Classes

Closed classes are those in which the maximum enrollment has been met and additional students may not enroll.

Financial Aid

Southwest Tennessee Community College participates in the Federal Financial Aid Program, and all students are encouraged to apply. To determine if there is need for assistance, Southwest uses the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (available online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov), which takes into consideration the factors that affect a family's financial status. The online application process, http://www.fafsa.ed.gov, takes approximately 3 weeks for processing through the Department of Education. Please be aware that both your financial aid file and admissions file must be complete before a financial aid award will be posted to cover your tuition.

Financial Aid refunds will be available from January 12th through January 15th. Reimbursements will be issued this semester via check. Refunds will not be posted to Southwest Debit Cards.

Parking Decals

Currently enrolled students who park on campus are required to have a valid parking decal. Decals are valid for one academic year and may be obtained from the office of Campus Police.

Purged Courses

All tuition payments are due by the date designated in the Tuition Payment section. Students who have not paid tuition, received a financial aid award that covers all tuition, or made arrangements for deferred payment in the Cashiers' office or online via my.southwest.tn.edu, will be deleted from enrolled classes for the semester. After the purge has occurred, students must re-register for available classes during the scheduled registration period.

Testing Requirements

Testing is required of all degree seeking students and students desiring to register for English or Mathematics courses, or courses with English or Mathematics prerequisites.

Tuition Payment

Tuition for the spring semester is due no later than January 2, 2009. Payment can be made using check, MasterCard, Visa, or Discover via My.Southwest or at the Cashier's Office.

For the fall and spring semesters, Southwest offers a deferred payment option to eligible students. Eligibility for the Deferred Payment Plan includes:
